Welcome to Off the Silk Road! My name is Benjy R., and I started this blog to provide insight into Chinese culture from the perspective of a 外国人 (wài guórén; foreigner). I live in New York, and have also lived in Hong Kong for five years. During my time there, I had the opportunity to travel all over Asia and China, as well as learn the Chinese language. This summer, I will be spending six weeks in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province (云南省) trekking and studying Chinese. I hope to write on this blog as often as I can during the trip, but you can follow my group’s adventures here as well. Off the Silk Road is divided into categories, some of which contain nothing yet. However, the “Notes from the Field” category has bilingual reflections and day-by-day summaries of a recent trip I took to China in March 2014. You can expect much more from this blog in the times to come, so subscribe to the mailing list and like it on Facebook here. Thank you for reading!
I am also the editor of Off the Maine Road, a blog all about places in Maine, USA. You can check it out here.
